Your parents may think you’re overreacting, but what do they know? There’s a possibility that your teacher is out to make your semester miserable. Ugh! We can’t pinpoint why but we can help you through it with these 3 survival tips:
Ask Around – Be observant of your teacher’s behavior and ask a classmate if they feel the same way. If they do, then you won’t be going through this semester alone!
Focus- Even when your teacher is in full savage mode, remain focused. Now is not the time to become the class clown to lighten the mood. Save it for your lunch period.
Talk to Them-This is the route for the bold and mature crowd. Speaking directly to a teacher in a respectful manner is a way to face the problem head on. Just remember this is not your peer so you mustn’t speak to them like one.

We discovered your wonderful candles at Beautycon + they smell absolutely delicious! What made you want to launch your own candle collection?
It all started with a candle making class I found on Groupon. I found candle making so relaxing and the instructor suggested it as a side business. I began testing them with friends and family where they became a hit and after many trial and errors over the past 3 years, here I am.
Your scents are fun + offers out of the box flavors! How do you pick your scents? How does creating your candles act as a creative outlet?
I try to pick scents and names that will make people smile. When people read the Sangria Sunday, Mint Mojito, or Brunch + Bubbly labels, there is always a smile and excitement involved after they smell it. Seeing that excitement from someone who shows up to my booth with a straight face and then smell my candles and end up grinning brings me joy. The candles act as a creative outlet for me because they push me to think of ways to catch peoples attention whether it be in the scent names, taking photos, social media posts and captions, or table set ups at events.
Being an entrepreneur + running your own business can sometimes get to be a bit overwhelming, how do you regroup and motivate yourself when you’re feeling a little defeated?
It can definitely be overwhelming but I have a really great support system. My family and friends keep me motivated and not only push me but remind me to focus on the positives. I also have a Bible verse that’s become my mantra for the business that reminds me that my purpose in candles is to let the light shine literally with the candle flame and figuratively. It’s Matthew 5:16 “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
We tend to pull characteristics from others in our lives or from people we admire, who inspires you and why?
I admire a woman named Dana Chanel. She’s a Christian Entrepreneur and her posts are so inspiring. They’re always about not only striving to do better in your business but also empowering yourself so that you can empower others. That’s the definition of making it.
We’re all about empowerment at C.O.R.E Mag, what does EMPOWERMENT mean to you?
Empowerment to me means being able to be free whether it be financially, mentally, etc and pass on the knowledge of how I did it to others. So with the candles, I want to eventually have my own candle studio where I can teach other people this awesome hobby I’ve been perfecting so that they can start their own business and empower themselves and others too.

Ugh! It’s that time of the month again and you’re dreading the week to come. PMS will have you angry one minute, sad the next, laughing after that, then back to shedding tears. It’s emotional AF. What’s a girl to do? Here are some tips on how to handle the madness!
Break A Sweat -Any kind of activity that increases your heart rate will be a huge help in improving your mood. Take at least 30 minutes out of your day to dance it out or try a yoga class.
Cravings? Although your body wants to eat the whole container of chocolate, opt for one piece to satisfy the craving. Then, grab a piece of fruit. It still has the sweetness you’re looking for but obviously a better option.
De-stress With The Squad-No one gets it like the girls who are going through it too. When you’re feeling super emotional, invite your girls over for a movie day. Get some advice from them on how they handle PMS.

Style is showing who you are with out having to speak! Name your top 3 trends you’re feeling this season?
This season I’m really feeling bandeau tops, off the shoulder tops, and jean skirts. Whenever I wear any of these three things, I feel like I can stand out in my own way and express who I am. Bright coloured bandeau tops or off the shoulder tops looks amazing on sunny days and I wouldn’t change it for anything else.
If you had 30 seconds to grab your 3 favorite style pieces, what would they be?
I would most likely grab a bandeau top of any colour, jean skirt, and either a jean jacket or a light sweater over depending on where Im going or how I’m feeling. This is an outfit that I would feel most comfortable in and able to move around in if I’m with friends. It also shows off a bit of my own style.
Style inspo is everything! Who’s your ultimate fashion icon + why?
I honestly have so many fashion icons but I am stuck between Ariel Martin (@babyariel) and Daniella Perkins (@daniellaperkins). All of their outfits on instagram are just stunning and gives me different ideas of what to wear when I’m going to different places.
Getting ready in the morning can be fun but stressful if you’re in a time crunch, what’s your go-to look if you’re in a rush?
If I were to be in a rush which is very often, I would probably throw on a nice pair of tights, and top and a sweater to go over. This is my go to outfit because its not too fancy but it shows enough style while being super comfortable. I would also wear my favourite necklace and small bracelet just to spice up the outfit a bit.
What’s your number 1 rule when it comes to style?
My number one rule is to dress as yourself and in something that you can be yourself while being comfortable in. I had to learn that the hard way because I always dressed to impress and it never fit who I was and it looked off. So always wear what you can be yourself in and forget about the criticism.
Have you ever felt like you’re the only one trying to juggle school, a job and a basically non-existent social life? Well. you’re not alone! Check out where some of your fave celebs are going or already graduated from and let it give you a push that you can make it too!
Pulling, tugging, yanking. Nope, we’re not describing a new dance challenge but how you constantly feel when you wear that new dress or cute off-the-shoulder top. Fashion can be a girl’s best friend but sometimes once the clothes come out of the bag + on you, it doesn’t feel or look like the perfect match. Before you blame the store lighting or the unrealistic mannequin sizes, check out these 4 tips that will never have your look falling flat again:
Umm Different Size?- Okay, we get that you can squeeze into a smaller size but the only problem is that you can’t exhale. When you’re shopping shake any beauty standards + sizes out of your head and simply go for a fit that is comfortable to you. Even if it’s a larger size than you’re used to buying, you’ll feel + look more comfy. And the same rule applies if you need to go for a smaller fit too!
Underneath It All- Just like the chic condos you see downtown, the outside structure wouldn’t look so glamorous if they didn’t have a good foundation. And yes, we’re talking about the magic of an amazing bra when it comes to your foundation. Not only will you see a major improvement in how your clothes fit but you can retire the “tug + pull” move you sneak to readjust your bra around campus. Need some guidance of where you can snag the perfect one? We have you covered! True & Co. will give you fit, comfort + confidence all wrapped into one. A TRUE-ly amazing bra can seriously change your entire life. Trust us now + thank us later!
Trend Overload!- We completely get that there’s a brand new trend every time you scroll on Instagram or hit play on YouTube BUT that doesn’t mean you have to wear them all. The beauty about style is that you have key pieces that are your staples which anchors your look. After finding pieces you absolutely love + that represents you then you can filter what trends work well for you. Never feel pressured to rock something that doesn’t help tell your personal fashion story.
Kick Up The Confidence- And last but not least is owning + slaying every piece you’re wearing. Many times your outfit looks great and the only piece that’s keeping it from being runway-worthy is you second guessing yourself. Word of advice: Get out of your head and step into who you are. Remember, you’re always the cool girl in the room simply because you create the environment + does not let the environment create you.
Unleashing your creativity while showcasing your individuality is the ultimate match in living out your dreams. Dancer Ciara Hines not only tells her story on stage but sparks true emotion from all who are captivated with her fluid movements!
From winning Miss Teen Dance America to being rewarded multiple scholarships, Ciara is achieving her dreams with a double dose of discipline and confidence. Pushing past her fears, she allows preparation + practice to build her mental + physical stamina before leaving her magic on the stage.
Ciara is focused and devoted to her craft and trains five to six days each week. She states, “The freedom that I experience when I dance is almost indescribable.”
Dance continues to shape her as she continues to fascinates + inspire her audience.
Let’s get to know Ciara a little better!
What motivated you to express yourself through dance?
Expressing myself through dance has not always been effortless. Nonetheless, when I am dancing, I imagine myself being transported to a zone where I am unrestricted, stress-free, and unequivocally poised. This motivates me to improve my performance every time I step on a stage.
Performing Arts gives an outlet to be creative + present in the moment. How has performing arts helped in building your confidence + discovering your strengths?
Performing in front of large crowds enhances my self-confidence. In fact, each performance tends to bolster my personality. Surprisingly, I am rarely nervous when I perform before large crowds. Perhaps my confidence can be attributed to my passion for the arts and my determination to be successful.
As a dancer what type of pressure do you experience? How do you prep for a competition?
To circumvent pressure during competitions, I set aside specific times each day for rehearsal. My motto is, Practice! Practice, and then Practice! I am extremely disciplined and I rehearse frequently. Therefore, when it’s time to compete, I generally feel enthusiastic and prepared.
What advice would you give girls who want to follow their dreams and passions but are nervous or intimidated?
Fear is a constant presence, no matter your profession or status in life. My advice to any girl, who is anxious or scared, is to pursue their aspiration, despite their insecurities. Life is filled with regrets and disappointments – so, girls must never add to these setbacks by disbanding their yearnings.
Being young, juggling responsibilities while walking towards your dreams can sometimes get to be a bit overwhelming, how do you regroup and motivate yourself when you’re feeling a little defeated?
Whenever I am overwhelmed or discouraged, I give myself permission to step away from the predicament, take some deep breaths, walk around, and listen to some of my favorite music. For me, music is a remarkable characteristic of a relaxation journey. When I decide to regroup, I am generally in a much healthier place.
We are all about empowerment, what does EMPOWERMENT mean to you?
From my perspective, EMPOWERMENT means having the freedom to pursue my dreams, being confident and creative, recognizing my strengths/weaknesses and honing my competency.

• Favorite Artist: Beyoncé
• Favorite Food: Grilled Salmon with asparagus

Any relationship should be 50/50 and when you start to notice your friendship becoming strenuous, it might be because you are putting out more effort than you are receiving. Being taken advantage of by a friend isn’t worth it and here are 4 steps to take when you think it’s happening to you.
Give It A Second Look: Determine how the situation makes you feel. If the roles were reversed, would you have done the same thing to your friend like she did to you?
Benefit of The Doubt: Find out if she’s going through a tough time, which is causing her to change her behavior.
Be Assertive, Be Be Assertive: Tell her how you feel and how you think she has taken advantage of you whether it was just this one time or on multiple occasions.
Drop Her: ONLY IF NECESSARY. This is the bottom line. If what you’re saying is going in one ear, out the other, and behavior isn’t changing, it’s best for your own mental health to respectfully move on.
