The dynamic combination of talent, beauty &  faith are just a couple of the  powerful  characteristics the  Taylor sisters possess! Marvel & Amair Taylor launched their amazing acting career  which has led  them to numerous opportunities including working with major names in  both the music and acting world. These two humble sisters are on their way to the top and inspiring others on their journey!

Let’s get to know the Taylor sisters better…

Ladies, you are making some incredible moves in the modeling/acting world, the latest being in the Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ‘White Wall’ video. How did you ladies dive into your amazing career of acting and modeling?

A couple years ago we decided to commit to pursuing our acting career. We started taking commercial and acting classes regularly to gain technique and build confidence in the audition room and on camera. God blessed us to book commercials right away and placed people in our lives which landed us more acting roles in film.

Ladies, you’ve already accomplished so much at your age! If you had to choose, what would be the biggest highlight in your blossoming career so far?

It’s hard to pinpoint the biggest highlight this far, because every project that we’ve been fortunate to be a part of has been so rewarding and a fun experience. For instance, we were able to work with Elton Jon in the Pepsi SuperBowl Commercial, Michael Cera on Arrested Development, and traveled with Macklemore for the ‘White Walls’ music video. We were able to learn from veterans in the entertainment business and soak everything in like a sponge.

Being young and having responsibilities can sometimes get to be a bit overwhelming, how do you ladies regroup and motivate yourselves when you’re feeling a little defeated?

We are always working on different projects at a time, so it’s hard to feel defeated about an audition or not getting a part. We enjoy the process of filmmaking and that motivates us to keep going from one project to the next. This journey is different for everyone. We have learned to just keep moving forward to accomplish our goals and not compare our career path with others.

Your futures are shining extremely bright! What projects can we expect from Marvel and Amair in the near future?

We are co-producing a feature film at this time. This is the first project that we’ve produced and we are excited for everyone to see it. Also, we are currently preparing to star in an independent film. Unfortunately, we can’t disclose any other details. Additionally, we have a Domino’s commercial airing now on Latino Networks.

We tend to pull characteristics from others in our lives or from people we admire, who inspires Marvel and Amair and why?

The ultimate person who inspires us is Jesus Christ. Our faith in Him is everything and we try to treat people the way we want to be treated.

Creatively, one person we admire is Meryl Streep. We absolutely love her vulnerability and versatility to play a wide range of characters and not limit herself to one particular type.

What are 3 pieces of advice you would give to girls who want to pursue their dreams in modeling/acting?

Firstly, know your God given purpose for your life. If a modeling/acting career is it, then great.

Secondly, commit whole heartedly and take action to seeing your goals through to get to where you want to be. Never give up.

Thirdly, just be yourself. Know what makes you unique. People will try to change you in the entertainment business, but always remain true to who God created you to be and the purpose He designed for you.

We are all about EMPOWERMENT at C.O.R.E mag, What does empowerment mean to you?

To us empowerment is inspiring and encouraging yourself and others to be the best that you all can be spiritually, mentally, physically, and in your careers.

Fun Faves!

Fave Food?
We try to eat healthy daily. However, our guilty foods can be ice cream and pasta.

Artist? Michael Jackson! Coincidentally, we have the same birthday!

Song? We don’t have a favorite song actually, just love great music.

Celeb Crush? We have always had a crush on Shemar Moore! He was our first celeb crush!

Often times we go through life and think being healthy is all about eating the right things and having enough exercise. However, there is so much more to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The things, people, and relationships we allow in our lives affect our health and overall well being. Sometimes your parents might complain about your friends and how they really wish you wouldn’t hang out with this person or the other; and that is because they realize how the company you keep affects your life.

When I was just a baby, I was introduced to my cousins and told they would be some of my best friends. Twenty-six years later, we are all still going strong. Every one of us is managing our own life and maintaining positive vibes and lifestyles. While I love my cousins, there came a time(s) in my life when I was forced find other friends and make judgment calls as to whether or not those (new) friends were positive influences.Heidi

As a rebellious, know-it-all teenager I made friends based on social status and popularity. I did not care if these friendships were detrimental to my well-being, what concerned me the most was if my new friends smoked cigarettes, could weasel up some liquor, or knew anyone who could put us in contact with the weed man. My priorities were not focused on whether or not my new friends would encourage me to be a better person or offer a shoulder to lean on during difficult times. As a younger woman, I didn’t know that social status and access to drugs and alcohol should/did not define a friendship. As a matter of fact, if there is someone in your life and their only connection to you is parties and/or moments of intoxication, it is very likely this person is not your friend and does not generate a healthy relationship for your life.

Have you ever heard the phrase, “Birds of a feather flock together.”? Well, it is so true. You can’t expect your life to be headed down a path of prosperity and joy when you surround yourself with ill accomplished, disconnected people. Part of the reason my life has generated success for me and I have been able to maintain a healthy lifestyle is because I surround myself with people and relationships that are successful and healthy. No not all of my friends have careers making six figures or run eight miles every day, but they each have a strong faith and value the importance of their own well being and success. Their positive outlooks on life trickle down into our friendships and eventually my own life. When you surround yourself with people who do not care what college they attend or if they get arrested for shoplifting, it is likely that same energy will be transferred into your life. You will then find yourself unconcerned with life’s outcomes and your brightest dreams will soon become lackluster.

When it comes to a healthy lifestyle, allowing yourself to participate in healthy friendships/relationships is just as important as daily physical activity and a healthy diet. An unhealthy relationship of any sort (friends, boyfriend/girlfriend, etc) will have negative effects on you and your life. You can’t expect to grow and increase if all you’ve surrounded yourself with are stagnant people. You can’t think that you’ll never become addicted to drugs if all you hang around are drug dealers and dope smokers. You can’t expect to be at the top of your class if every single one of your friends is at the bottom. Know your goals and where you want to be in life. Examine the relationships in your life with a microscope and determine which relationships are healthy and support the dreams and aspirations you have for yourself.

We, as human beings, are supposed to be connected to each other.  Knowing that we need people in our lives is easily understood, but things become most difficult when it is time for us to determine to whom we should be connected. It is only natural for you to want to follow the crowd and hang out with the “cool” kids. No one wants to feel like an outsider, especially during your teenage years. But sometimes what we fail to realize is that what is cool is not always healthy or beneficial for us. Middle and High schools are only a fragment of your life. Do not stress yourself about maintaining a relationship with the captain of the cheerleading squad because she throws the best parties- it is irrelevant. But do stress yourself about maintaining those relationships which encourage you to put your best foot forward and focus on the things that will generate positivity in your life. When your parents tell you they don’t like this person or the next it is not because they want to hurt you or make your life miserable, it is because they know that person and that relationship are not going to be of benefit to you. Listen to your mentors and parents as they try to guide you to healthy relationships. Your connections with the right people will eventually become your connections to your own success.

Start to evaluate your circle. If your friends are unreliable or don’t support you in everything you do, then those friends are not what you need. In life we outgrow people. The thought makes some nervous, but to outgrow someone is great. This means you’re making progress in your life and you are not the same person you once were. So, as you take control of your life and your relationships, seek people who are going to generate positively healthy relationships. Keep your goals and aspirations in the forefront and those who need to be in your life will come and stay.

Find an invaluable relationship, fine tune it, and hold on tight. Do not get caught up in relationships that don’t matter. Until next time ladies, stay humble, focused and always remember to generate peace, love, health and beauty!

Baltimore Native Marques Dent sets sights on the 45th District State Delegate Seat

Baltimore City resident Marques Dent is proudly gearing up for his entrance into the State of Maryland political arena. Being a Baltimore native, and a current resident of the 45th District, Marques knows he has what it takes to restore the confidence in the leadership of the District. With a unique mix of education and experience, Marques is poised to deliver an accountable, deliberate, and effective voice to the residents of the 45th Legislative District.  When asked why he has chosen to run for the State Delegate Seat, Marques said “a direct connection between legislation and community is a focus area of mine. Residents and issues are the root of what it means to be a public servant.”  He remains devoted to service and education, and believes firmly that information is the key to success.

His dedication to providing adequate resources to the families of the community inspired Marques to establish the D.E.N.T Group (Delivering Educational Needs Together). “I have been and I will continue to be subservient to the issues of my neighbors, in an effort to ultimately put them and their families in the best possible position to succeed” Dent stated. The D.E.N.T Group offers a free IT training program at the Oliver Community Center that is open to all residents within the community. Additionally, the D.E.N.T Group initiatives include the “Back to Baltimore” school supply drive and “Holiday Help for Baltimore,” which delivered thousands of pounds of food to more than 400 needy families in Baltimore. Marques remains committed to being a positive role model within the community. He coaches youth baseball for the Northwood Baseball League and regularly visits local schools to speak to the children about the value of education.

Marques Dent has continued to achieve success and strive for excellence. He has achieved both a Bachelors of Science in Information Systems, as well as a Masters of Science in Information Technology Management. He served his country as a United States Air Force decorated officer and Captain. He’s worked at the Pentagon, where he supported the Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff in the National Military Command Center; he’s also served as a Presidential courier for the White House.  Marques Dent embodies the principle – a position doesn’t make a person – a person makes a position. He is devoted to providing the necessary leadership, accountability, and service to all the residents of the 45th Legislative District.
