Raise your hand if you ever used a floppy disk? Well, even though we might not currently use them for technology, doesn’t mean we can’t wear them! Talented, fresh designer Brittany Rosario used her creative juices to launch her dope jewelry line, BJ Rosa/ Latch Key collection, to showcase how floppy disks will never go out of style. Brittany is currently in college with a major in English on her way to achieving each one of her dreams & visions.

Let’s get to know Brittany Rosario a little better…

Share with us how you started your jewelry collection BJ Rosa and Latch Key.

It all started when I signed up to do the SCAD challenge, a contest for scholarship money to attend Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, GA. There are different categories relative to different majors and skill sets usually the theme of the challenge changes every year; when I applied for the challenge the theme was making jewelry from recyclable items. It took me a while to come up with an idea but then my mother pointed out the old floppy disk in the office. She told me to make earrings or a necklace out of them. So I put my creativity to the test and made my first pair of earrings.

Where do you see BJ Rosa/ Latch Key in the next 5 years?

I see BJ Rosa/ Latch Key going to the global market in 5 years. I currently have a Facebook page for my designs and am working on a blog as well as a website where I can sell my products. More than likely I’ll have an etsy online shop.

What advice would you give girls who want to follow their dreams and passions?

My advice to those girls would be to never give up. If there isn’t one thing that my mom, my older brother, college, and life in general has taught is to be persistent. “There is no progress without struggle.” Just keep smiling and keep striving.

Being a teen can be tough when you’re growing up, what was the most vital lesson as a teen you learned so far in life?

The most vital lesson I learned as a teen was to focus on myself. The boys can wait and if your friends are your real friends, they’ll realize that you need to be able to find yourself and figure out who you are as an individual and if they really care then they’ll let you do your thing and support you through it all; Kind of like family.

We’re all about EMPOWERMENT at C.O.R.E Mag, what does empowerment mean to you?

Empowerment to me is being able to keep your head on straight, stay strong, be positive, and keep moving forward. Empowerment is about having support of those who love you and support in yourself, in your own ideas.

Fun Faves!!- Food? Song? Artist? Celeb Crush?

My favorite food is Italian. I don’t really have a favorite song because I listen to all types of music. My favorite music artist is currently Ariana Grande but my favorite actual artist is Andy Warhol. My absolute celeb crush is Johnny Depp, I’ve had a thing for him since I was in 7th grade.
