Style On’em!

Hey Ladies, it’s time to run to your closet and start rocking it out. Remember, you are young, free and fly. Knowing these traits about yourself on the inside is most important, BUT it’s time to translate that confidence on the outside starting today! When you step out to the world, people should not only feel your powerful spirit radiate but also see it in how you present yourself. You’re right, you should never judge a book by its cover but we are all walking billboards. Let every inch of your creative spirit shine through.

You ask yourself  “Style On’em?  How do I do that with no credit card, car and only work part time on the weekends between dance practice and homework?”  Being fly does not have to cost and it definitely doesn’t mean chasing every trend that comes your way. When you become in touch and begin creating personal style, ask yourself that most adults don’t even ask…”What do I truly like?”  Even though it’s a simple enough question which seems basic, many people get caught up in what’s “in” that they let media pick out their closet. They may not necessarily know if they like it but they get more concerned of other’s opinions rather than their own.

Here’s a few tips of how you do it….

Time for the Remix!- So you’re the youngest and what you get are your older siblings hand me downs. Let’s just say time to remix! Yes your older sisters had style but not as much as you. Take those pieces and make them fit for you. A snip there, a tuck there  and Voila! It’s flyer than the original and you know you won’t see a replica at homecoming. Fashion is truly cyclical so more than likely a trend from your mom’s or sis’s  closet is coming back soon if not already here, so don’t diss them before you rock it!

Find the Fit- Now, style is nothing without feeling comfortable in your “threads.”  Ok, so the worse thing is buying or finding something that should be labeled “Tug & Pull” because that’s what you’re doing  to it all day that you wear it. The times you look the flyest are the times you feel comfy! Don’t dive into the myth that “Beauty is Pain.” That’s a fail. Don’t squeeze yourself in the dress that you can’t breathe in, just go for another cut that is still as sassy! Remember people (and yes if you’re wondering…guys too) notice when you try too hard to fit a certain image. It is all about you feeling gorgeous and unstoppable.

Follow Who?? – Okay so there is a major difference between from pulling inspiration and being a fashion follower. God created only one of you, there will never be a duplicate…ever. With that fresh thought in n your mind, use that in your style as well. Just because you’re young it does not mean you can’t dictate your own standards. Pulling inspiration is great! From Vogue to your school to 94 year old, Mrs. Thomas whose gray bun never has a stray hair and a remarkable broach collection, pull all of them together to make up what works for you. Tons of designers look at what young people are interested in and what they’re wearing and replicate it for their high fashion collection So in hind sights you dictate what’s hot!

At the end of the day the most important thing is to take risk and have fun! Life is too short to worry  about other’s opinions. I guarantee you will begin to be an inspiration for others. So Go ahead and STYLE ON’EM!
