Hey Beautiful Ladies!

So going natural sometimes can be well…a little scary. Getting used to a new texture, trying to come up with funky hairstyles and pushing past others opinions can seem like an impossible task while simply trying to balance your classes. Yes, the fact that it’s just hair remains but it also takes a mental change to switch up on what you think is beautiful. If you are transitioning from permed hair to natural hair, you may need a little EXTRA encouragement. It’s always good to know that you’re not the only one going through the change. The best point is to remember that you are FLY & GORGEOUS no matter what hairstyle you rock!

Check out these vids of fly teens showing and talking about transitioning…

So you heard your mom, aunt, granny talk about doing them. You’ve disregarded pamphlets about them you seen at your school, church and any program or organization your parents make you participate in. Your mom even went so far as to stick an example of a plastic diagram in the shower to show you how to do one properly. Yes, I’m talking about giving yourself Breast Self Examination. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah you’ve always heard about it but “you’re young, free and invincible!” Hmmmm but think about if you start doing monthly breast self exams it will help you develop positive habits and allow you to learn your body so if anything were to happen you would pick up on it quickly. It’s not as hard as you think!

Check out steps from National Breast Cancer center….

In the Shower

Fingers flat, move gently over every part of each breast. Use your right hand to examine the left breast, left hand for the right breast. Check for any lump, hard knot, or thickening. Carefully observe any changes in your breasts.

Step 2
Before a Mirror

Inspect your breasts with your arms at your sides. Next, raise your arms high overhead.

Look for any changes in the contour of each breast, a swelling, a dimpling of the skin, or changes in the nipples. Then rest your palms on your hips and press firmly to flex your chest muscles. Left and right breasts will not exactly match—few women’s breasts do.

Step 3
Lying Down

Place a pillow under your right shoulder and put your right arm behind your head. With the fingers of your left hand flat, press your right breast gently in small circular motions, moving vertically or in a circular pattern covering the entire breast.

Use light, medium, and firm pressure. Squeeze the nipple; check for discharge and lumps. Repeat these steps for your left breast.

Turn Meditation into “Me” Time

You’re young, free and simply fearless! Anything dealing with chants, awkward positions and forcing you to be quiet for more than 5 minutes, you’re just not interested in. Well, I’m here to give you a nudge to open up your mind just a tad. Meditation is not necessarily as  intense as you might  think. Hey, I even have a problem for sitting still for more than 2 minutes at a time. But turn what you think  meditation is into a little, quality “me time.”

Between grueling  homework assignments, the parentals screaming down your throat, and you trying to catch eyes with “Mr. Football” in your second period class, your mind is constantly racing. It is a special treat to yourself to allow your brain to chill out a couple of minutes out of the day. Pausing your mind either before you start your day or even after you had a day where you felt your life was falling apart bit by bit , giving yourself time to breathe.

SOMEONE, PRESS THE MUTE BUTTON!– Yes! Grab the remote and hit the mute button! But wait it’s not just the electronics that receive the shut off button, so do you! Chatting with your girls, guidance counselor and boyfriends throughout the day your mouth can use a bit of a break. Instead of exercising your thoughts through talking, flip it and open your ear canals and focus on what your environment is saying.

SHAKE OFF THE STRESS– You are constantly moving all day and that is not including basketball practice after school! But even though you’re constantly in motion, you still don’t take time out to stretch all  those muscles throughout the day and shake off all of that pinned up stress.

CLEAR THE CLUTTER!– Time to clean! Not what you think, I know cleaning your room is the last thing you want to hear (which you should) but I’m talking about your thoughts. Having a packed schedule starting from 6:30 am to around 10pm at night, you rarely have time to think about the most important person…YOU! Take 10-15 minutes to focus your mind on what you like or goals you want to achieve. If it’s making Varsity Volleyball to winning a local poetry competition envision your success!

See, so I told you meditation is not the scary, right??

You’re FLY!
