Friendships and bonds in high school differ from those in college. Each are significant but also built on different foundations. You’ve most likely known a lot of your high school friends since elementary school and saw them everyday since. You all grew up together. Your college friends don’t have the same history with you, but you know them just as well. The quality of your friendships will evolve as you evolve too.

Different foundations | Like stated, your high school friendships are built on time, whereas, your college friendships are built on experience, which is why you may feel more connected with them. These are the people who you’ve lived with, shared meals with, and have navigated college life with and what it means to be independent. That builds a deep friendship.

Maturity | Some of your high school friends, especially the ones that decided not to attend college, are still stuck in that mindset. College allows you to mature and think about your goals for the future. You tend to want to surround yourself with people who are on that same wavelength.

Friendship Beyond | College friends are more likely to be life long friends because these are the people you chose to come into your life. You’re sort of forced to be together in high school. College allows you to surround yourself with people you like based on your major, clubs, sports, etc. and you live within walking distance of them. This friendship is bound to last forever.
