“I feel like I’m always running around and never get enough sleep! What are some ways I can keep my energy up during the day???” Audry, 15

Dear Audry,

I completely understand! Sometimes it feels like there are not enough hours in the day to even catch your breath. Juggling between school, practice, chores, a part time gig and having atleast 15 minutes to yourself you feel like you need a magic clock to stop time for atleast an hour so you can catch up! Your body is constantly on the move and can often feel like its giving up on you before the day is over. In reality we all wish we could add atleast 3 hours of sleep each night. Unfortunately, there is nothing to replace hours of z’s but here are some tips that will atleat keep you up in 7th period.

Healthy Snacks– Pack them, seal tem and chow down! Try to pack fresh snacks as fresh veggies and fruits to keep your energy high and your mind focused
Take A Break– Sometimes just taking a break from your work can be the perfect pill to revamp your energy. If you’re doing homework try to break before switching subjects. Go take a walk, get up and stretch. Anything that will get your blood flowing and allow your mind to rest for a little bit!

Manage Your Time– So I know the call with your best friend about her first date with her crush seems like a top priority but you might need to wait to see her tomorrow at lunch if you are hammered with work. Try to pick and choose what is important and whar needs to be done today.

Hope this helps! Try to fit in a couple of extra hours. I know 8 hrs seem impossible buy your mind and body will thank you later!

Good Morning Beautiful Ladies!

The phrase “I am too young” should be thrown out from your vocabulary after reading about 12 year old Victoria Pannell. This young and determined voice spoke out in Harlem to lead an anti-violence march in her neighborhood. Being tired of living in fear of violence, she took matters in her own hands and  led residents in a rally Friday at Wright Brothers Playground. This specific  a playground  has a reputation of being an unsafe environment for children. They all made a stance to begin to change their environments. Victoria Pannell serves as the, the National Action Network’s Northeast Regional Director of the Youth.

The national Shake-Off the Violence tour and coast-to-coast cease fire coordinated by NAN’s Youth was recently announced.

Speak Out!

Good Morning Ladies,

A group of students called the The Resistance from Bronx, NY have decided to “Occupy” public education. Seeing the needs for major improvement in their schools, they have created a 10 point plan to change NYC’s public school system.

These young people are taking power in their own hands and being the change they would like to see.

“We demand a healthy, safe environment that does not expect our failure or anticipate our criminality. We demand a school culture that acknowledges our humanity (free of metal detectors, untrained and underpaid security guards, and abusive tactics),” we’re one of many demands the students presented.

Be encouraged to speak out for he changes you want to see in your school.. Remember it’s YOUR future.

You’re Beautiful Because…

Young girls often deal with thinking if they are good enough or even beautiful enough.  I’m here to encourage you all that you are beautiful and here are a few reason why!  You’re beautiful because of your bravery to face such a cold world.  You’re beautiful because of your strength to stand up for what you believe in and take on the world.  You’re beautiful because of your intelligence.  You’re beautiful because of your drive and motivation to press forward when the road gets tough.  You’re beautiful because of your love and care for others.  You’re beautiful because of your desire to be successful.  You’re beautiful simply because you BELIEVE it!  Beauty is more than just an outward appearance.  It’s most apparent from the inside and everything that you consist of!  Be encouraged today and know that you are BEAUTIFUL!
