Style Line-Up: Aysia

What’s your name, age + the city you’re from?

My name is Aysia. I’m 20 years old, and I was born and raised in Clinton, Maryland.

Style is showing who you are without having to speak! If you had to line-up your top 3 trends you’re feeling this season what would they be?

My number 1 trend would have to be layers! I feel like layering has really kicked up this year. I think it’s a good way to add different kinds of movement to your outfits. It’s also a great way to get the most out of your closet. It allows you to wear seasonal clothing all year round. For example, a cropped tank top could be worn over a turtleneck. Then you’d have a different look and be warm for the winter!

Coming in second would be Maximalism. I love seeing people turn up the notch and be completely extra when it comes to clothing. Funky patterns, hats, tights—everything. When I see the crazy outfits some people put together, sometimes I wonder how they pull it off.

My number three would be huge, chunky, platform shoes. I’ve wanted to get my hands on a pair, but I haven’t yet. I’ll have to gift myself a pair at some point!

Describe your style in 3 words:

That’s tough! I think my style is funky, a tad bit retro, and a little bit quirky

Style inspo is everything! Who’s your ultimate fashion icon + why?

I’ll be honest here; I don’t usually keep up with what other people are wearing. I’ll usually see a celebrity or influencer rocking something unique and sometimes soak that into my own style.

However, I’d have to say my ultimate fashion icon is my mom! She’s been into fashion since she was a young girl and she loves dressing up. Our  tastes are quite different, but when I put together outfits now for videos and pictures, I often wear clothes that she’s handed down to me.

Getting ready in the morning can be fun but stressful if you’re in a time crunch, what’s your go-to outfit if you’re in a rush?

Anything black! For me, black is the easiest color to style, and I own a lot of it. At one point, I kept my closet fairly neat. It was primarily color coded, and the black section was the largest. My go-to would be to pluck a hoodie or shirt from there, throw on some jeans, add a cute shoe (usually a boot) and be on my way!

What’s your number 1 rule when it comes to style?

It would be to make sure you are comfortable with what you are wearing and that you love it! I absolutely hate feeling “meh” in an outfit. I think any outfit that you choose to rock should feel like a second skin. It’s often a reflection of you, and you should feel good in it!

What’s your name, age + the city you’re from?

Hayyyy! My name is Chelsea, I am 20 years old— soon to be 21 yasss. I currently reside in Waldorf, Md.

Style is showing who you are without having to speak! If you had to lineup your top 3 trends you’re feeling this season what would they be?

I am ALLL for the corset-like belts that go around your waist. They can really turn an outfit into a look!  I’ve also been loving the platinum eyebrows. Finally, statement purses/bags are everything! I love unique bags that stand out.

Describe your style in 3 words:

I would describe my style as eye-catching and diverse. I also would call my style “ a look”.

Style inspo is everything! Who’s your ultimate fashion icon + why?

Teyana Taylor’s diversity is everything! From her hair to her style— she never lets herself get confined to one category.

Getting ready in the morning can be fun but stressful if you’re in a time crunch, what’s your go-to outfit if you’re in a rush?

To be completely honest, if I am in a rush I will grab a pair of sweats and my nearest hoodie. Add a bun or a scarf and some lip gloss and I’m ready to go!

What’s your number 1 rule when it comes to style?

Serve looks and be yourself. Don’t let anyone’s opinion determine what you wear. Don’t follow the trend, be the trend! <3

What’s your name + the city you’re from?
I am Aleyah Joseph and I am from Harlem, New York

Style is showing who you are with out having to speak! Name your top 3 trends you’re feeling this season?
My Top three trends are suit sets, over sized jackets/trench coats & metallics

If you had 30 seconds to grab your  favorite style pieces, what would they be?
If I had 30 seconds to grab my fav style pieces they would be my fur coat + my circle mcm bag from the heritage collection.

Style inspo is everything! Who’s your ultimate fashion icon + why?
I don’t really have one specific style icon, but ultimately I would choose x_carms on Instagram because her style is relatable, chill, but yet unique at the same time. Also, I’m inspired by the artist Aaliyah and her laid back style + oversized looks.

Getting ready in the morning can be fun but stressful if you’re in a time crunch, what’s your go-to look if you’re in a rush?
My go to look if I’m in a rush is to wear my hair in a high bun w/ my baby hair slicked, a hoodie/ cropped sweatshirt, ripped/ high waisted jeans, cute sneakers, and my trench coat.

What’s your number 1 rule when it comes to style?
My number 1 rule is to stay yourself through it all b/c sometimes a trend is not for you and it’s okay. Always stick to what you feel comfortable in b/c you’re wearing it.

Style Diary x Lexi!

What’s your name + the city you’re from?
My name is Alexia (Lexi) Stewart, and I’m from Houston, Texas!

Style is showing who you are with out having to speak! Name your top 3 trends you’re feeling this season?
My first trend that I’m feeling this season is long and lean. It’s a very clean and crisp trend with a lot of white and long, slim dresses, skirts and pants. I think that culottes would fit into this trend really well. My second trend is saville row! It features things such as herringbone, houndstooth and plaid items. The last trend would have to be the whole oversized and baggy trend that’s going on. I love wearing sweaters and cardigans that are two sizes too big because I enjoy being cozy and comfortable. I don’t have anything that relates to saville row in my closet yet (it can be a little pricey), but I admire the trend so much and love seeing the style on other people!

If you had 30 seconds to grab your 3 favorite style pieces, what would they be?

My three favorite style pieces would be my distressed denim jacket, my oversized burnt-orange cardigan and my distressed mom jeans that I thrifted and made myself!

Style inspo is everything! Who’s your ultimate fashion icon + why?
Definitely feel that I don’t have a specific style icon. I love just spending some time browsing Pinterest and Instagram looking at outfits and trying to create something similar, but unique out of things I already own. If I HAD to pick, these are a few of my favorite Instagrammers whose styles I enjoy:

discoverbella
speakoftheangel
laurajadestone
thepatriciabright
itsdemib

I love them because their styles are very simple and minimalistic. A lot of basics with a few iconic statement pieces. That’s the direction that I want my wardrobe to go in for 2019.

Getting ready in the morning can be fun but stressful if you’re in a time crunch, what’s your go-to look if you’re in a rush?
Oh my gosh, this was literally me towards the end of the semester because sleeping in just felt so amazing. I have two different scenarios with this. If my hair is natural, I usually put it in a high bun. I’ll put on my denim jacket with my black mesh leggings, a basic white or black t-shirt with a bralette, and my black adidas NMD’s. If I have a protective style such as braids or weave, I definitely make sure to grab my black adidas hat as well. It’s an outfit that is extremely comfortable, basic, still cute and falls into the ongoing trend of athleisure.

What’s your number 1 rule when it comes to style?
My number one rule is to never sacrifice comfort for style and trendiness. I had to learn this the hard way. My freshman and sophomore years of college were filled with me wearing wedges, heels, skirts, and tight clothing to class. Eventually, I got tired of doing that and focused on pleasing myself and just being comfortable. You can still look cute and feel cozy and comfy too!

Style is showing who you are with out having to speak! Name your top 3 trends you’re feeling this season?
I love oversized shades and different and fun frames, I feel like they are needed accessories.

If you had 30 seconds to grab your 3 favorite style pieces, what would they be?
A cool pair of clear/reader frames , slip on sneakers , and a nice jacket to finish the look.

Style inspo is everything! Who’s your ultimate fashion icon + why?
Since I’ve started blogging and creating youtube content, I’ve been so interested in other creators. AnnieDrea is my favorite youtuber and her fashion sense really pushes the envelope. She’s never afraid to wear anything, which is how bold fashion is.

Getting ready for class can be fun but stressful if you’re in a time crunch, what’s your go-to look if you’re in a rush?
I love to look effortlessly put together so I’ll throw on a college paraphernalia shirt or sweatshirt, and a pair of ripped jeans with slip on sneakers. This look is also comfortable for class.

What’s your number 1 rule when it comes to style?
Wear whatever you want to wear, and make it flattering.

Style is showing who you are without having to speak! Name your top 3 trends you’re feeling this season?
My favorite trends would have to be knee-high boots, velvet boots and of course, I can’t forget the fur. Knee-high boots have always been my favorite, they’re simple but can bring together any outfit. I’ve also been slowly falling in love with velvet. Velvet pieces have been becoming quite popular lately but for me, velvet boots (especially velvet ankle boots) have become my favorites. Lastly, fur has been making it’s come back but what really made me start loving fur – Fur cuffed jeans. I’m in love with those.

If you had 30 seconds to grab your 3 favorite style pieces, what would they be?
I love adding scarfs to my outfits so those have to come first. Next, I would get a denim jacket because you can never go wrong with a denim jacket. Lastly, I would pick high waisted jeans, they’re comfortable and easy to work with, so you gotta love them.

Style inspo is everything! Who’s your ultimate fashion icon + why?
My fashion icon would definitely have to be Rihanna. I just love the touch of boldness incorporated into her outfits. Whether it be the thigh-high boots or the bright colors, she is always able to make a statement with her outfits. Rihanna’s outfits are always unique and I think show a true reflection of herself. I like to put the most into every outfit and always add my own touch to every look because I want to portray my character and creativity as much as I can through my style.

Getting ready for class can be fun but stressful if you’re in a time crunch, what’s your go-to look if you’re in a rush?
My go-to look is an oversized jumper, comfy jeans, and high boots. I try to go with the warmest and most comfortable option, and when it comes to a nice oversized jumper you can’t go wrong. To keep things simple, I pair it with plain jeans. I really big fan of boots and I will admit I’ve got a few, so I head straight for my boots. Naturally, boots are not much of an option during the warmer months so my pair of white converse would be my summer go-to footwear.

What’s your number 1 rule when it comes to style?
When it comes to style I think it’s important for people to try and stay true to themselves. If there is a certain style that you really like and you feel comfortable in, never hold yourself back. Style yourself in what you love and feel your best in. Everyone has a different perspective on fashion, so embrace it. Use your opportunities to express what fashion really is to you because you are you and no one can take that away from you.

Meet Chelsea Turpin!

A taste of style is exactly what NYC ordered when fashionista Chelsea Turpin arrived to take over the fast paced + invigorating city with her own flavor. Hitting the pavements of the concrete jungle in 2013, she left the breezy days of LA to embark and create her voice in one of the fashion capitals of the world. While juggling between being a student and an intern in the highly competitive field, she shares her journey through her influential blog over at ChelseaTurpin.com! She hopes that sharing her dreams and an inside peek of her life will motivate others to conquer + master their dreams as well! And of course, give the world an extra dose of style!

Let’s get to know Chelsea a little better…

unnamed (95)

You’re a fly fashion blogger hailing from LA to NYC! What made you dive into the fashion industry?

My interest in fashion started at a young age. I started collecting sneakers in middle school and it grew from there. I always used the way I dressed as an outlet to express myself. Wearing a cool pair of shoes or a new outfit just always made me feel confident and comfortable. After landing a part-time job in a boutique, I realized I could turn my passion into a pay check.

Blogging is a great outlet to share your journey, how does your site allow you to express yourself and your dreams?

Moving to New York alone, I left behind a lot of friends and family members. I started my blog as a way to just share my experiences but it ended up being an outlet where I could also curate different outfits and images that I thought were interesting.

Style is a way of expressing yourself without speaking, how would you describe your personal style?

My personal style changes with me as a grow and go through different phases in life. Growing up I was really into sneakers and street wear then I went through a boho phase and had a couple different styles in between. Now that I am working and getting into my career I am definitely going for a little bit of a sophisticated look, but I still try to have fun with shoes and accessories to show my personality.

Being young and having responsibilities can sometimes get to be a bit overwhelming, how do you regroup and motivate yourself when you’re feeling a little defeated?

I usually give myself a little time to be alone with my thoughts, whether its going for a run or shopping. After that, I just have to keep going. You can’t let that feeling of defeat be on your mind too long. You just have to keep going and evaluate things you can change to improve the situation. What am I doing that isn’t working? What do I need to change?

unnamed (94)

We tend to pull characteristics from others in our lives or from people we admire, who inspires you and why?

I look up to my mom and my grandma the most. I feel like any confidence or intelligence I have is because of them. They are both extremely smart and hard working women. From a young age, they showed me that I can have anything I’m willing to work for. Even on her worst days my mother is a warrior and at 83 years old my grandma is still learning new skills like painting and photography.

We are all about empowerment, what does EMPOWERMENT mean to you?

Empowerment means setting goals and achieving them. The day I realized that I am in control of my own life, everything changed for me. I felt like I discovered a secret that someone had been keeping from me all these years. If I do the work I can have anything that I want. As long as I have faith and another day to work towards what I want, I feel empowered.

Time for the Faves! Celeb Crush? Artist? Food? Movie?

I hate to admit it but I love Kim Kardashian. I think she is gorgeous, I love her sense of style, and I admire how she used what she had and created her own lane. My celeb crush is definitely Michael B Jordan and like every girl I love Drake. I love all the fashion movies, Devil Wears Prada, Sex in the City, and any fashion documentary. Especially now that I work in the industry I find them really interesting and inspiring.
